I Found a Pet
My Pet is Lost

Picture
HSMC is partnering with Petco Love Lost to reunite lost dogs and cats with their rightful owners. By uploading a photo of a lost or found pet, the Love Lost database will use its patented facial recognition technology to search rescue organizations, shelters and the overarching Love Lost database to help identify where your lost pet may be. It even uses photo-matching technology to integrate with Neighbors by Ring, Nextdoor, and Facebook. Register your pet on Petco Love Lost today so we can help bring them home if they go missing tomorrow.

COMMUNITY-REPORTED LOST & FOUND PETS

Many of the animals located at HSMC on this map were surrendered to HSMC by their owners. If you are looking for a pet, please refer to the 'Pets Currently on Stray Hold' section above for animals who were found as strays.

PROTECT YOUR PET

Statistics show that 1 in 3 pets go missing. These tips will help you prevent them from being lost, and will help you be reunited with them sooner if they do go missing,
PREPARE

Petco Love Lost - HSMC partners with Petco Love to help reunite pets and their people. Petco Love Lost is a free, easy-to-use lost-and-found tool that unifies lost and found pet listings from across the country—including posts from thousands of animal welfare organizations, Nextdoor, and Neighbors by Ring—into one searchable database. The platform uses photo-matching AI to help reunite pets by comparing images of lost pets with those of found pets. Register your pet for free and mark as Safe at Home. If your pet is ever lost, you'll be ready to change their status and start the search right away.

Microchip -
A microchip is a rice-sized implant that has a number on it that can be tracked to the owner. If your pet doesn't have a microchip already, talk with your vet, or seek out a microchip clinic to get one ASAP. Make sure your chip is properly registered and your contact information is always up-to-date.

Identification - Use ID tags on your pets to clearly share your contact information. Keep a photo of you and your pet easily accessible to prove ownership once found.

Tracking Device - Some pet parents use a tracking device on their animal, particularly if the pet is more likely to run off out of fear or because they have a history of wanting to explore on their own.
PREVENT

Safe Travel - Keep your pet safely contained during transport by using a crate or seatbelt/harness. Cats should always be transported in a carrier.

Safe Walking - When walking your pet, choose an apparatus that is properly fitted and they are not able to slip out of. If your dog is nervous, or you have recently adopted them, consider using a martingale collar and/or use two leashes, with clips attached to a harness and collar. That way, if they slip out of one, they'll still be attached to you. We do not recommend using retractable leashes, as they are easy to get tangled. Plus, when you drop a retractable leash, it makes a loud, scary noise and can cause your dog to run away.

Home Safety - Regularly check your home to ensure your pet cannot escape. Inspect your fence. Make sure all windows and doors latch properly. Talk with everyone in your household as well as any guests to ensure that doors, windows, and fence gates are never left open.
