Mission Creek is Closing...as we continue to expand our services

The Mission Creek Corrections Center for Women (MCCCW) — home to one of our most vital foster programs — is closing in the coming months.
This program, rooted in second chances and compassion, has been a lifeline for hundreds of at-risk animals; and it has provided a deeply meaningful opportunity for the women who have cared for them.

Thanks to the incredible work of our fosters at MCCCW and through your support, over 500 animals have received care since the program's inception in 2020.
With the correctional facility closing, we face a major transition.
We need you now more than ever.
What happens next?
Our team has been working diligently to expand our foster capacity in anticipation of MCCCW closing its doors, including:
  • Expanding our community foster network to care for the animals who would have gone to Mission Creek

  • Creating new partnerships to fill the gap left behind

  • Adding housing space and staff support at our facility in Belfair

  • Continuing to invest in training and support for foster homes of all experience levels
How can YOU help?
This change leaves a large gap — but also an opportunity for growth.
  • Foster - If you’ve ever thought about fostering, this is the moment to step in. You can make a life-saving difference!

  • Share - If you aren't able to foster, please share this need with your friends. The more people who foster with us, the more animals we can help!

  • Adopt - The more people who think of the Humane Society of Mason County when they're ready to adopt, the more quickly we can help pets find their forever families and open our foster homes up to new animals in need.

Thank you to our incredible MCCCW fosters and the staff who have supported this program. With heartfelt appreciation, this video is our tribute to them.

Growing Needs. Life Saving Work.

Across the United States, including our region, unprecedented numbers of animals are in need. Shelters and rescues are flooded with strays and surrendered pets. Pet owners are unable to afford veterinary and even basic care.

HSMC is committed to serving the needs of our community. With your support, we continue to growing wisely, steadily, and strategically.

This June, we had 218 animals in care at one time, the highest number we’ve ever had.

That milestone number represents tiny newborn kittens, large litters of puppies, injured strays, surrendered pets, and senior animals in need of medical support — all depending on us for safety, healing, and hope.

This record reflects both the growing needs in our community and the incredible trust people place in the Humane Society of Mason County.

We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and we're deeply grateful for the volunteers, fosters, and donors who help us meet the need, even on the hardest days.
